Study in Ireland from Pakistan: Fees, €10,000 Funds Rule, Stamp 2 and the 24-Month Graduate Stay

Ireland pairs English-taught degrees with Europe’s tech and pharma jobs. Here is what Pakistani students need for the visa, work rights and graduate stay.

Key takeaways

  • You must show about €10,000 in living funds plus proof of tuition payment (commonly at least €6,000).
  • After arrival you register for Stamp 2: 20 hours per week of work in term, 40 in holidays.
  • Stamp 1G lets Level 8 graduates stay 12 months and Level 9+ graduates up to 24 months to find work.
  • Ireland has its own visa system — a UK visa does not cover Ireland.

Ireland is the only English-speaking country in the Eurozone and the European base of many tech, pharmaceutical and finance giants. For Pakistani students, that combination — English-taught degrees plus a 24-month graduate stay — is hard to beat.

Where students study

  • Universities: Trinity College Dublin, University College Dublin, University of Galway, University College Cork, Dublin City University, University of Limerick, Maynooth.
  • Technological universities: TU Dublin, ATU, TUS and others with applied, industry-linked programmes.

Dublin is the most expensive; Cork, Galway and Limerick often cost less.

Costs

Item Approx. amount
Tuition — undergraduate €10,000–€25,000 per year
Tuition — master’s €10,000–€30,000 per year
Funds proof €10,000 for living costs
Tuition payment evidence commonly ≥ €6,000

The funds proof is a minimum; real living costs in Dublin are often higher. Read our funds guide for how to present them.

How the process works

  1. Choose a course and apply; receive an offer letter.
  2. Pay the required tuition amount and keep the receipt.
  3. Prepare proof of €10,000, health insurance, academic documents and English results.
  4. Apply online for the D Study visa.
  5. After arrival, register with immigration to get Stamp 2 on your Irish Residence Permit.

Maintain 70% attendance and satisfactory progress; permission can be affected if you don’t.

Work rights and the graduate stay

  • During study: 20 hours per week in term and up to 40 in holidays.
  • After study (Stamp 1G): Level 8 graduates (bachelor’s) can stay 12 months; Level 9 or above (master’s and PhD) up to 24 months to find work.

Many master’s graduates move into skilled employment permits when they find qualifying jobs.

English requirements

IELTS 6.0–6.5 is typical. Check IELTS and PTE options and ask your university which tests it accepts.

Common pitfalls
