Chevening Scholarship 2027/28 for Pakistani Students: Eligibility, Timeline and How to Win

The 2027/28 Chevening window opened 5 August and closes 6 October 2026. Here is who qualifies, how selection works and what to do if you missed it.

Key takeaways

  • The 2027/28 application window opened on 5 August 2026 and closes on 6 October 2026 — if you missed it, start preparing for the next round now.
  • Chevening is for one-year UK master's degrees and requires at least two years of work experience, plus a plan to return to Pakistan.
  • Shortlisted applicants are expected to be interviewed from February 2027, with results from mid-June 2027.
  • Strong applications show leadership, networking and a clear, specific career plan — not just good grades.

Chevening is the UK government's flagship fully funded scholarship, and Pakistan sends thousands of applicants every year. It rewards people who can show leadership, influence and a clear plan for Pakistan, not only strong marks.

What Chevening covers

Full financial support for selected scholars: tuition fees, a monthly living allowance, travel, visa costs and other allowances during the one-year master's.

Who is eligible?

  • A citizen of an eligible country (Pakistan qualifies).
  • An undergraduate degree that qualifies you for postgraduate study in the UK.
  • At least two years (2,800 hours) of work experience.
  • A commitment to return to Pakistan for at least two years after the scholarship.
  • Applications to three eligible UK courses.

The four essays that decide your fate

Chevening applications are essay-based: leadership and influencing, networking, studying in the UK and your career plan. Tips:

  1. Use specific stories. Say what you did, what changed and what the result was.
  2. Show influence, not title. Persuading a team or changing a process counts.
  3. Make your career plan concrete. Name the role, sector and timeline in Pakistan.
  4. Link your course choices to the plan. Explain what each course gives you that you can't get at home.

See our SOP writing guide for structure that also works for scholarship essays.

Interview tips

Panels look for credibility and fit. Practise explaining your leadership examples in two minutes and your plan for Pakistan in one. Keep answers specific and honest.

Build your profile before the next window

  1. Document leadership evidence — projects, teams, volunteering, results.
  2. Take IELTS early. Book through our IELTS preparation page and use the free mock tests.
  3. Shortlist UK courses that match your career plan. Read Study in the UK for costs and realities.
  4. Apply to backups — Stipendium Hungaricum, Türkiye Bursları and DAAD.

Common mistakes

  • Treating the essays as a CV in paragraph form.
  • Vague career plans like "I want to help my country."
  • Course choices that don't match your story.
  • Submitting on the final day and risking portal problems.
