Stipendium Hungaricum 2027 for Pakistan: Step-by-Step Application Guide (HEC + Hungarian Portal)

A fully funded route to Hungary — if you submit on both portals before the January deadline. Here is how the process works for Pakistani applicants.

Key takeaways

  • The 2027/28 cycle is expected to open around November 2026 with a deadline in mid-January 2027 — always confirm on the official portals.
  • Pakistani applicants must submit on both the Stipendium Hungaricum portal and the HEC portal; missing either can lead to rejection.
  • Benefits typically include tuition, a monthly stipend, accommodation support and medical insurance.
  • Start attestation and recommendation letters in September–October.

Stipendium Hungaricum is one of the most popular fully funded scholarships among Pakistani students — and one of the easiest to lose through small administrative mistakes. This guide explains the process end to end.

What the scholarship covers

For selected students, the programme typically provides:

  • Tuition fee waiver
  • Monthly stipend
  • Accommodation in a dormitory or an accommodation contribution
  • Medical insurance coverage

Levels include bachelor’s, master’s, PhD and some one-tier programmes. Fields range from engineering and computer science to agriculture, business and medicine (subject to conditions).

Timeline (expected for 2027/28)

Stage Typical timing
Call opens November 2026
Application deadline around 15 January 2027
HEC/portal verification & interviews February–March
Results spring 2027
Visa and arrival summer–September 2027

Dates change each year — verify them on the official websites.

The two-portal rule

Pakistani applicants apply through both the Stipendium Hungaricum (Tempus Public Foundation) online system and the HEC portal. Both must be completed before the deadline. An application on only one portal is treated as incomplete.

Documents to prepare

  • Passport and photo
  • Degree certificates and transcripts (attested as required)
  • Motivation letter and CV
  • Recommendation letters (confirm number and format)
  • English language certificate (IELTS/TOEFL or accepted alternative)
  • Medical certificate and any programme-specific documents

Start in September–October: attestation, references and language tests all take time. See our IELTS preparation and SOP guide.

Tips to strengthen your application

  1. Match your programme to your background. Reviewers look for logical progression.
  2. Tailor the motivation letter. Mention specific Hungarian programmes and why they fit your goals.
  3. Strong references. Choose referees who can discuss your academic ability in detail.
  4. Rank choices smartly. Include a mix of ambitious and safer programmes.
  5. Submit early. Portals slow down near deadlines.

After selection

Once selected, you receive an acceptance, apply for a Hungarian student visa through the embassy in Islamabad, arrange travel and register at your university. Full details for visits and study routes are on our Study in Hungary page.

Self-funded alternative

Not selected? Hungary also offers affordable self-financed programmes (about €2,000–€8,000 per year) with lower living costs than Western Europe. Compare it with Poland and Romania.
