Study in Romania from Pakistan: Letter of Acceptance, Fees and the MBBS Recognition Warning

Romania is cheap and popular for medicine and engineering — but recognition and process details matter. Here is the honest guide.

Key takeaways

  • Non-medical tuition is roughly €2,000–€4,000 per year and medicine €5,000–€8,000, with living costs of about €300–€500 per month.
  • The Ministry of Education issues a Letter of Acceptance that you need before applying for the visa.
  • If you plan to practise medicine in Pakistan, check PM&DC recognition and licensing rules before paying anything.
  • Romania is now a full Schengen member, but visa rules for Pakistani citizens still apply.

Romania is one of Europe’s cheapest study destinations and a major hub for English-taught medicine, dentistry and engineering. It’s popular — and, as with any popular destination, requires careful checking of universities and recognition.

Why Romania?

  • Very low costs: €2,000–€4,000 tuition for most non-medical programmes and €300–€500 monthly living.
  • English-taught medicine and dentistry at established medical universities.
  • EU degree recognised across Europe subject to professional rules.
  • Fewer entrance exams than many EU countries.

Where students study

University of Bucharest, Babeș-Bolyai University (Cluj), Politehnica University of Bucharest, Carol Davila University of Medicine, Iuliu Hațieganu University of Medicine, Victor Babeș University of Medicine (Timișoara), Ovidius University of Constanța and Technical University of Cluj-Napoca are widely chosen.

The admission process

  1. Choose a university and programme.
  2. Apply and receive provisional acceptance.
  3. The university submits your file to the Ministry of Education, which issues the Letter of Acceptance.
  4. Apply for the long-stay student visa (D/DS) at the Romanian Embassy in Islamabad.
  5. After arrival, apply for the residence permit within the deadline.

Keep scans and legalised copies of every document; translations may be required.

MBBS: the PM&DC warning

Many Pakistani students choose Romania for medicine. Before you pay anything:

  1. Confirm that the university is recognised by PM&DC.
  2. Understand the licensing examination requirements for foreign graduates in Pakistan.
  3. Confirm the programme language, clinical placement and duration.

Rules change, and recognition can depend on specifics such as admission route and curriculum. If a consultant can’t explain these points, find another one.

Work and living

Part-time work is limited. Cost of living is low, but you should budget for rent, food, insurance and travel. Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca and Timișoara are the main student cities.

Is Romania right for you?

It suits budget-conscious students, especially those targeting medicine, dentistry, engineering or IT — who can verify recognition and organise paperwork. Compare it with Poland, Hungary and Lithuania. Read our Study in Romania page, plan trips with the Romania visit visa guide and get honest counselling.
