CSC Scholarship 2027 for Pakistani Students: Types, Deadlines and How to Apply

China’s CSC scholarship funds thousands of Pakistani students. Learn the two application routes, key documents and mistakes that cost applicants their place.

Key takeaways

  • CSC has two main routes: Type A (bilateral, coordinated through HEC/embassy channels) and Type B (apply directly to universities).
  • Deadlines vary between December and April depending on the route and university.
  • Benefits typically include tuition, accommodation, medical insurance and a monthly living allowance.
  • Use the correct university and agency codes, and upload complete documents.

The Chinese Government Scholarship (CSC) is one of the biggest scholarship programmes in the world and a favourite among Pakistani students interested in engineering, technology and international relations. Success depends on choosing the right route and presenting a complete application.

What CSC covers

Depending on the category and university, CSC typically provides:

  • Tuition fee waiver
  • On-campus accommodation (or allowance)
  • Comprehensive medical insurance
  • Monthly living allowance

Always verify the current benefit amounts in the official CSC announcement.

Type A vs Type B

Type A Type B
Route Bilateral — governments nominate Direct university application
Pakistan channel Official government/HEC announcements University’s CSC page + CSC portal
Competition Very high High — depends on university quota
Backup Combine with Type B Combine with Type A

Because the routes are separate, many students apply through both where eligible.

Timeline

Deadlines run roughly between December and April, with some universities closing earlier. Start in October with documents. The 2027 intake call is expected to open from around December 2026.

Step-by-step application

  1. Choose your level and field and shortlist universities that offer CSC for your programme.
  2. Find the agency number and university code on the CSC website.
  3. Create an account on the CSC online system and fill the form accurately.
  4. Upload documents: passport, highest degree, transcripts, study/research plan, recommendation letters, physical examination form, non-criminal record and language proof.
  5. Submit the application to the university portal if required.
  6. Wait for the result and, if selected, receive an admission notice and JW202 form for the X1 visa.

Documents that cause problems

  • Blurry or incomplete scans
  • Missing notarisation/translation
  • Study plan copied from templates
  • Recommendation letters without proper signatures
  • Wrong university code

See our SOP guide for a stronger study plan.

Choosing a university

Look beyond rankings: supervisor fit, language of instruction, city and living costs matter. Tsinghua, Peking, Zhejiang, Fudan, SJTU, USTC and Wuhan are competitive; many strong universities have more accessible quotas.

If you’re not selected

China also offers affordable self-funded study (tuition CNY 14,000–40,000 per year for many programmes). Read our Study in China page and compare with Türkiye Bursları and Stipendium Hungaricum.

Important note for medical degrees

If you plan to study medicine, check PM&DC recognition and licensing requirements before applying. We never recommend a medical programme that fails this check.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between CSC Type A and Type B?

Type A is a bilateral programme in which governments nominate candidates, so Pakistani applicants usually apply through the official government channel. Type B involves applying directly to participating Chinese universities that have their own quotas.

Do I need HSK for CSC?

Not for English-taught programmes. Chinese-taught programmes require HSK levels set by the university or a language preparatory year.

Can I apply for CSC if I am self-funded?

Yes, you can apply for CSC and also for self-funded admission at the same time, which is a sensible backup.
