Study in France from Pakistan: Campus France Steps, Tuition and Scholarships

A practical guide to the Campus France procedure, real costs, scholarships and visa steps for Pakistani students applying to France.

Key takeaways

  • Public university tuition for non-EU students is roughly €2,900 (licence) and €4,000 (master) per year, with exemptions for some.
  • Pakistani applicants typically register on Études en France and complete a Campus France interview.
  • Students need at least €615 per month as proof of resources and may work about 964 hours a year.
  • The Eiffel Excellence Scholarship and France Excellence Pakistan awards are competitive but fully supported.

France is a fantastic destination for students who want high-quality education, culture and a European base — and its public universities are far more affordable than their UK or US peers. For Pakistani applicants, the key is understanding the Campus France procedure and the funding rules.

Public universities vs grandes écoles vs business schools

  • Public universities — research-led, affordable, with large selection of bachelor’s (licence) and master’s programmes.
  • Grandes écoles (engineering, political science) — selective, often reached through preparatory classes or competitive entry.
  • Business schools — EDHEC, SKEMA, emlyon, Grenoble EM and others with international accreditation and higher tuition.

What it costs

Item Approx. amount
Public university — licence ≈ €2,900 per year

Some students are exempt from the differentiated fees — your counsellor will check the latest rules.

The Campus France procedure

  1. Create your Études en France profile and list your academic history.
  2. Upload documents (transcripts, passport, CV, motivation letter, language proof).
  3. Pay the Campus France fee and attend the interview to explain your project.
  4. Receive an authorisation to continue to apply or confirm admission.
  5. Apply for the long-stay student visa (VLS-TS) and validate it online after arrival.

The interview checks that your studies fit your background and plan. Be ready to explain why France, why this programme, how you will finance it and what you will do next.

English or French?

English-taught master’s degrees exist in management, engineering and computing — typically IELTS 6.0+. For French-taught programmes you need TCF or DELF B2. Even with English programmes, French helps with part-time work and settling in. Read our IELTS guide.

Scholarships

  • Eiffel Excellence Scholarship — master’s/PhD, nominated by French institutions.
  • France Excellence Pakistan — embassy-supported awards announced periodically.
  • Erasmus Mundus — joint master’s degrees with funding.

See the scholarships hub for current guidance.

Work and after graduation

International students can work up to around 964 hours per year. After a master’s, graduates may request a temporary residence permit (APS) of up to 12 months to seek work or start a business.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Starting too late — Campus France timelines are firm.
  • Choosing a programme that doesn’t fit your degree.
  • Neglecting accommodation planning (CROUS vs private housing).
  • Weak or generic motivation letters. See how to write a strong SOP.

Is France right for you?

Choose France if you want a high-quality European degree, can organise the procedure early and are open to learning French. Compare with Italy and Germany, or explore the Study in France page. When ready, talk to a counsellor.

Frequently asked questions

Is French required to study in France?

Not for English-taught programmes, which are growing in management, engineering and data. French-taught programmes require TCF/DELF B2 evidence.

How early should I start the Campus France process?

Start 9–12 months before your intake. The Études en France profile, document upload, interview and visa preparation all take time.

Are business schools worth the cost?

Top business schools offer strong networks and internships but cost €10,000–€25,000 per year. Compare outcomes and scholarships carefully before committing.
