Study in Malaysia from Pakistan: Twinning Degrees, EMGS Student Pass and Real Costs

Malaysia offers foreign-awarded degrees at lower cost in a Muslim-friendly environment. Here is how EMGS, twinning and costs work.

Key takeaways

  • Malaysia hosts branch campuses of Monash, Nottingham, Heriot-Watt and others, plus strong private universities.
  • Your institution applies for your EMGS student pass; the Visa Approval Letter (VAL) comes before travel.
  • Typical tuition is MYR 15,000–50,000 per year; living costs MYR 1,500–2,500 per month.
  • Always check MQA accreditation and HEC equivalence before enrolling.

Malaysia is one of the most popular affordable destinations for Pakistani students. It offers English-taught programmes, branch campuses of UK and Australian universities and a welcoming, Muslim-friendly environment — all within a few hours’ flight of Pakistan.

Types of institutions

  • Public universities — Universiti Malaya, UKM, USM, UPM, UTM: very reputable, more competitive for internationals.
  • Foreign branch campuses — Monash University Malaysia, University of Nottingham Malaysia, Heriot-Watt University Malaysia and others offering the home campus degree.
  • Private universities — Taylor’s, Sunway, APU, UCSI, INTI and more with strong industry links.

Twinning and top-up routes

Many private institutions run twinning programmes (for example 2+1 or 3+0) with UK or Australian universities. If you hold an ADP or diploma, a top-up can convert it to a bachelor’s in 1–2 years. Read the details in our top-up degree guide.

Quality checks before you commit

  • Is the programme MQA-accredited?
  • Does the foreign university’s award appear on your certificate?
  • Will your degree be recognised by HEC in Pakistan?
  • What exactly are the fees, including hidden costs?

Scholarships

Many private universities offer merit scholarships of 10–50%. The Malaysia International Scholarship (MIS) supports outstanding postgraduate students. See the scholarship hub.
